(A)chromatic Celebrations
The Artist in Residence Program continues its mission to provide a platform for cultural exchange between Central New Jersey and nearby urban centers. To that end, our January exhibition brings together New York based artist Ryan Compton and Bucks County based photographer Christopher Kennedy. The work of these highly distinct artists finds a commonality under the theme of celebration.
Compton's contribution to the exhibition is an installation of black pennant banners hung across the ceiling of the gallery. Viewers will be familiar with these flags as a common marketing tool for small businesses celebrating grand openings and the like. By depriving the banners of their bright colors and hanging them as an art installation, Compton creates an apt symbol of our struggling economy.
Kennedy's abstracted photographs of colored light arrangements adorn the walls of the exhibition. As a celebration of the rich possibilities for human beings to capture the luminous world, these works stand as a counterpoint to Compton's austere installation. Together these artists' work makes for an exceptional visual and intellectually stimulating experience.

Artist Biographies
Ryan Compton is a New York based artist. He graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2003. In his work Compton mixes cultural experiment with drawing, installation, and new media tools to explore context and conditioning in contemporary society.
Group shows and projects: TATE Modern, X Initiative, John Connelly Presents, White Box, and Foxy Production.
Publications: Vogue Nippon, Charley Independent, K48, Time Out New York, Friends and Friends of Friends, and White Ice Sherbet.
Christopher Kennedy, a British born artist, is currently based in Bucks County PA. After a career in feature films, Kennedy has recently transitioned into fine arts photography. Kennedy has developed a unique style he calls Photo Luminism, which is both eye catching and thought provoking. Using compositions of static light arrangements, he captures striking abstract scenes totally in-camera. These photo-luminous images manage to convey an extraordinary sense of movement and 3-dimensionality.
Kennedy has exhibited with Gallery Piquel in New Hope PA.
