Salad Days

“Salad Days” takes its name from an expression describing idyllic times of youthful energy; an apt description for the relatively “green” walk of life this show finds its four artists in. Shtyk, White, Weibley and Zhu met while studying at the prestigious Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and works by the four exhibit some shared aesthetic tendencies: each can be seen here to juggle playful use of cast-off cultural materials, vibrant colors, repetitive mark-making, and austere atmospheric tones and surfaces. A number of collaborative works, most produced with this exhibition in mind, will be shown alongside predominately new work

After diverging from shared paths, the four find themselves together again in the making of "Salad Days," but the work that they are now making is not tied together by similarities in theme so much as by mutual concerns. Differing sensibilities forged together are given an opportunity here to reflect on and reflect each other.
