1. Ask For a Raise

Instead of trying to work extra hours, consider earning more for the same amount of work you are currently doing. That way, you will be less likely to get overwhelmed and burnt out by working so many hours.

If you have an annual review at your job or haven’t received a raise in while, bring up the conversation with your boss and see what their thoughts are.

Maybe there’s a promotion you can apply for or you can demonstrate all the benefits your work has brought the company since you’ve joined the team to help convince your employer.

Either way, securing a raise is much better than working tirelessly to earn more money, but the first step is to ask.

But these pros and cons are not always this clear-cut. Short-term benefits can often usher in deeper long-term issues. 1.Q.What is the "regular rate of pay," and how is it determined?

A. 

Overtime is based on the regular rate of pay, which is the compensation you normally earn for the work you perform. The regular rate of pay includes a number of different kinds of remuneration, such as hourly earnings, salary, piecework earnings, and commissions. In no case may the regular rate of pay be less than the applicable minimum wage.

Ordinarily, the hours to be used in computing the regular rate of pay may not exceed the legal maximum regular hours which, in most cases, is 8 hours per workday, 40 hours per workweek. This maximum may also be affected by the number of days one works in a workweek. It is important to determine what maximum is legal in each case. The alternate method of scheduling and computing overtime under most Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Orders, based on an alternative workweek schedule of four hour days or three hour days does not affect the regular rate of pay, which in this case also would be computed on the basis of 40 hours per workweek.

The agreed upon regular hours must be used if they are less than the legal maximum regular hours. For example, if you work 32 to 38 hours each week, there is an agreed average workweek of 35 hours, and thirty-five hours is the figure used to determine the regular rate of pay. However, in circumstances where the workweek is less than 40 hours, the law does not require payment of the overtime premium unless the employee works more than eight hours in a workday or more than 40 hours in a workweek. In other words, assuming you are employed under a policy that provides for a hour workweek, the law does not require the employer to pay the overtime premium until after eight hours in a workday or 40 hours in a workweek. If you work more than 35 but fewer than 40 hours in a workweek, you will be entitled to be paid for the extra hours at your regular rate of pay unless you work over eight hours in a workday or 40 hours in a workweek.

"The two best ways to make the most money over the long term are to hire other people to do the work for you and focus on building passive income streams," Sabatier wrote in his book, "Financial Freedom: A Proven Path to All the Money You Will Ever Need."

Passive income "is why most of the world's richest people are entrepreneurs who started and grew their own companies. Instead of working for money on their own, they have others working for them. Why mow lawns when you can hire someone else to do it and still make a majority of the money?" Sabatier wrote.

As he explains it, employees add value to a business, making it more valuable than a single individual could. "Building a business multiplies and compounds your power to make money by the number of employees you have," he wrote. "Many people have gotten rich by simply paying other people to do the work and connecting demand with supply."

These employees don't have to be full-time either - it can be anyone you pay to do the work, Sabatier said.

Outsourcing is a good move even if you don't have your own business. To retire as a millionaire, Alicia Butera, CFP at Planning Within Reach, recommends outsourcing things that stand in the way of your earning, from hiring a financial planner to manage your finances to an accountant to do your taxes to someone to mow the lawn or grocery shop.

"In your mid-career, you're probably making the top tier of your income, so start having people do things for you so you can focus on your career and extending your income and benefits," Butera previously told Business Insider.
