These methods probably won't amount to a full income, but as January's financial blues hit, the extra cash could come in handy.

Bloggers and money savers on social media have revealed to The Sun what their best insider tricks for boosting your bank account are.

The results could help you save some serious money over a long period.

Whether you're looking to top up your regular income or need some extra cash for a holiday, we've got the tips for you.

We've worked out that if you did all nine of the tips on this list, you would earn just under a whopping £1, each month.

Here's how they managed to do it - and how you can do the same.

1. Earning cashback

I love TopCashback and have been a regular user for more than five years now.
Whenever I buy anything online I go to TopCashback first and click through to the website from there, which triggers a payment.

That might be £60 cashback when switching broadband or £ cashback when booking a holiday using Expedia.

One of my best savings using the site was when I booked a holiday to Las Vegas and got £ cashback which I used for spending money.

2. Complete tasks for money 

Money-earning website 20Cogs gets you to complete 20 tasks over a period of a few weeks.
They can be things like questionnaires and signing up to offers, but all can be cancelled at no cost.
I tried it and made £ after completing the 20 tasks.

You can also currently earn a £5 welcome bonus just for joining.

3. Install an app

With Ipsos Media Cell - consumer data tracking software - you will earn a £20 voucher just by installing an app on your phone.

You then get £10 every month you keep it installed on your phone. I've tried it myself and it works well.

4. Take a survey

Pinecone Research pays £3 per survey you complete.

The company asks for your opinions on products across health, home, kids and sport, enabling you to accumulate points.

You can then redeem the points for cash or prizes.

It isn't currently accepting new members but it is worth keeping an eye on the website so you don't miss an opportunity to get involved.

5. Get paid for listening to music

Listen to music and  SliceThePie will reward up to 10p for every song you listen and rate.

The more you listen to and the more detailed your reviews, the more it will reward you.

You can also share your views on other items such as clothes.

1. Go mystery shopping

Several Facebook users suggest going mystery shopping to earn extra cash.

There are dozens of companies you can mystery shop with. MoneySavingExpert forum users have put together a comprehensive guide to how you can start mystery shopping which has links to all the different companies.

Some suggest you can earn up to £2, per year by mystery shopping.

2. Selling stuff on eBay

It's the oldest trick in the book but many of our money savers say they still sell their old unwanted items such as clothes and homeware on the auction website to earn extra cash.

You don't even need to go to the post office anymore, as you can choose to have couriers pick up the items from your home.

eBay will take a cut of whatever you make from selling your items though so it may be worth looking for other ways to flog your items, such as on Gumtree or on Facebook.

Earning money online UK, or wherever, is diverse.

For instance, if you’re completing online surveys to earn money online fast (Best Product Testing UK Jobs), you may be paid in free products (such as cosmetics), gift cards (e.g. Amazon) - or as cash wired to you (via PayPal/check/PayPal/Transferwise). In some cases, you need to reach a threshold of points before being paid.

The most reliable ways to earn money online give you a payment at least every month - and many pay weekly/fortnightly.

Risks and Scams

A quick talk about risks and scams to avoid when trying to earn money online.

So you’re looking up jobs on Craigslist, www.oldyorkcellars.com or www.oldyorkcellars.com and you find a perfect advertisement: The company wants somebody with your exact experience and skill set, your location and is offering competitive pay.

There is only one issue: You have to pay for training materials before being eligible for the job.

Or perhaps there’s an external link that requires confidential information such as bank account or credit card numbers before you can send off your application.

Job scams will typically have signs like this. Some people prey on the most desperate, tricking them into giving away costly financial information or receiving money for a non-existent position.

You should be able to earn money online free of charge. Initially, you only pay with your time.

What Are Job Scams?

This is a way for people to access your personal information, cash or financial data. These criminals target job hunters.

Because jobseekers may be desperate to find a position, they might ignore their flags suggesting something isn’t right with the listing.

There are two main types of job scams:

• Phishing: Scammers snoop out your credit card numbers or bank account details.
• Cash payments: Others ask you for payment in order to get certificates or training materials for non-existent jobs. You may even be tricked into accepting fraudulent checks.

Red Flags of Job Scams

Most legitimate job companies won’t conduct interviews using messaging services such as Yahoo! Messenger, Facebook messenger, Skype and Google hangouts. Scam artists often do use the services however to target those looking to earn money online.

#1 Interviews via Messaging Services

You will get a job offer but the interview is only used in order to acquire personal information from you such as your bank account or national security number.

The interviewer will claim this is in order to set up a direct deposit, after offering you a “position.”

Do not accept interviews via messenger services. In the case that you do, never give out personal or financial data. This will be used to commit identity theft.

Legitimate companies who are conducting online interviews for candidates not in the country or state will often use their own in-house messaging platform.

#2 Public Email Accounts

This one’s a little tricky Many legitimate companies do use Gmail in order to talk to their employees. But it is a warning sign if the company talks to you via Yahoo or Gmail, or something similar.

Earning money online is becoming more and more open ended. So use your instincts. If there are a lot of grammatical issues and misspellings, this could be a sign of an online scammer (unless the employer is a non-English speaker). 

#3 Foggy Job Description

Any business looking to make money will try to make their job advertisement as specific as possible. Legitimate job ads will have a clear outline of what your responsibilities are if you fit the job and key performance indicators. You may also be given an indication of the salary and other benefits - a clear guide on how to earn money online.

So be suspicious of vague listings that give you little detail on what the job actually is. Scammers often rush and don’t take the time to make the advertisement seem realistic. The more sketchy an online ad is, literally, the more sketchy it may be.

#4 Personal Data Requested During/Before an Interview

Keep to this rule: never give any personal or financial data to accompany during the interview process. Legitimate companies won’t request bank account details or your national security number during an interview.

This won’t happen until you’ve accepted the job and met HR to sign your contract. They’ll dangle the need for direct deposits of your head as an excuse.

#5 Upfront Payment Request, Consulting Services or a Different Job

Scammers target job seekers because they know a certain percentage will be desperate. Some exploit this in order to get you to  hand money over: They’ll ask you to pay for “training materials” or “certifications.” Legitimate companies never ask you to pay for applying for a job. Never send money - even if you hope you can, in return, earn money online.

Also, many advertisers create listings that they mention the opportunity for a “career consultation”. Scammers will trick you into answering ads for jobs that don’t exist and it’s just a way for them to sell job-hunting services. Not how to earn money online.

Finally, if you go to the interview and find you being offered a different job to the one you applied for, this is a scammer hoping to get you to work for an undesirable job. They trick you by advertising for one that seems better.

It’s the ultimate dream: a pile of extra cash making its way into your back pocket every month.

Ideally, the money would fall from the sky, and simply present itself to you, without you having to do anything for it.

Of course, that’s not how the world works (for most of us, anyway).

There is a way to regularly boost your bank balance, however, by earning so-called ‘passive’ income.

You might have heard the term bandied around – but what does it mean? And how can you get involved?

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is passive income?

Essentially, passive income is a source of revenue that continues after you’ve completed the initial work.

Most of these income streams require at least an initial investment: ideas, existing skills, time, maybe even a little bit of money.

The aim is that, eventually, your project sells itself with minimal upkeep.

Options include creating online courses, ebooks, physical products, your own website – or even a YouTube channel.

So is this income truly ‘passive?’

Not quite, says passive income expert and business strategist Lisa Johnson.

‘True passive income only comes from making money from money. So, investing your money into things and that makes you even more.’

Over the past 4 years, Lisa’s gone from being in debt to earning a seven-figure salary, 90% of which she says comes from ‘passive’ or ‘semi passive’ income streams.

These include creating online courses, consulting work and guiding people to diversify their income streams.

She adds: ‘In reality, even renting out a spare room counts because ‘passive income’ simply means ‘not trading time for money’.

‘You build the asset first – paint the room, put furniture in the room, put an ad out. Then make money from the asset.’

Is it really possible to earn a passive income?

As rolls around, it feels promising to start the New Year with a goal of setting up passive income.

But can it be done, and if it can, is it really the case that you’ll sit back, relax and watch the cash roll in?

Lisa tells www.oldyorkcellars.com that it can be done – but stresses that there’s no overnight ticket to effortless success.

She admits: ‘It takes time and a lot of it in the beginning – and patience.

‘People make out that you can earn 6 figures in 6 weeks online with no [existing] audience. It simply isn’t true and it’s a marketing tactic.

‘I always teach people that passive income isn’t a get rich quick scheme – it takes time and effort.’

She continues: ‘The myth is that passive income means you do nothing, when in reality it is hard work at first.

‘If we’re talking [about] digital, that means up to a year [of hard work] because you’ll need to grow an audience, write the course content, or learn how to launch your product online – but once you’ve done all of that, it becomes very passive.’

15 of the best ways to bring in a passive income

Create downloadable templates

If you’re feeling creative or enjoy graphic design, you could sell templates on a platforms like Etsy or even Amazon.

To get started, you’ll need a laptop and relevant software to create the designs. Many people use free tools such as Canva.

Try your hand at designing business card templates, CV templates, book templates, diary or planner templates, card template or social media banners (the list goes on).

Once they’re designed up, you can sell the digital files online – these can sell from anything from 50p to £ It all depends on how complex they are.

Airbnb your spare room

This is an option for people who have a spare room in their current home.

Rather than renting it out full-time to a lodger, you could stick the room up on Airbnb as an accommodation for travellers.

If you live in a popular city or desirable countryside location, this could be lucrative – especially if your prices are reasonable, particularly for longer stays.

You’d be able to approve guests, as well as choose the dates people can book.

As a host, your main concerns would be admin, showing the guest around the property, cleaning, and being available to deal with any concerns.

www.oldyorkcellars.com staffer Anna used to rent out her apartment in Berlin when she went on holidays.

‘I’d rent my apartment out for around €40 – €80 a night, depending on the time of year, so the income I generated would pretty much pay off my holidays,’ she said.

‘I used to move out all my valuables and spend a good day or two cleaning before people arrived, so you have to factor that in. Plus, people would often arrive after midnight or in the early hours so I’d use lock boxes – which came at a cost.

‘Overall, it was definitely worth it, but came with its stresses.’

Renters with a spare room could consider something similar. However, you’d need your landlord’s permission first.

Create an online course

Online courses are a hugely popular way of making money from your existing skills.

If you’re an expert in something – anything from filmmaking to vegan cooking to social media – you could teach your knowledge via a digital course that people pay for.

Usually, courses are delivered through pre-recorded videos, audio, worksheets or a combination of media types.

They would typically be advertised through a platform like Skillshare, Teachable or Discoco.

The latter company presents an edit of the best online courses available – because they’re a dime a dozen these days.

To stand out, you’ll need to make sure you’re covering a niche subject matter, can keep your materials up to date, and also have a plan for reaching potential buyers.

Discoco co-founder Isabel Mohan tells www.oldyorkcellars.com that courses are ‘a great way for anyone with expertise to add another string to their bow.’

She shares: ‘While we think it’s misleading these days to see courses as a route to true passive income, it’s a clever way to develop your business and reach new people who could potentially turn into valuable one to one clients in the future – whether you’re a life coach, web designer or ukulele player!’

The price you can charge for your course varies wildly. Isabel says Discoco lists courses from as little as £30 for hobby topics – while others teaching sought-after professional skills can cost thousands.

But before you go ahead with publishing all your knowledge, it’s definitely worth doing some background research first.

‘Making the course content… could only take a few hours,’ explains Isabel. ‘But editing it, formatting it all on a course platform, and then figuring out how to sell it can be a time-sucker.

‘It helps if you have some skin in the game. Everyone is calling themselves a coach these days, so it’s tough to stand out.

‘If you already have a network in whatever field you work in, it makes sense to run your idea past them first and use them as guinea pigs. Have a look around at what else is out there and try to find your niche.

‘Running a few live webinars to test the waters is a good way of doing this, before committing to making a whole course.’

Five-star reviews – along with genuine recommendations from friends – are the key to a successful course, Isabel adds.

So, perhaps those who join your early workshops would be willing to give you a testimonial? A good first step.

Sell stock photography

If you’re a dab hand with a camera, selling photography to stock image sites might be an option for you.

Galleries like Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Getty Images/iStock and Yay Images all accept photography – and you’ll receive a percentage every time a photo of yours is sold.

For stock imagery, you could take photos of cities, flowers, animals, a model (whose written permission you have) or even something topical – such as stock images of Covid tests.

These photos may be used by news outlets, websites, businesses. And usually, the more your photo is downloaded, the more it is promoted – meaning more payouts for you.

Some of these galleries accept video and audio files, too.

Like all the income sources on this list, it’s not going to make you an immediate fortune, and competition is fierce: a lot of excellent photographs already exist on these platforms.

But if you own a professional camera and want to give it a shot, it’s worth a try.

Flip furniture

Sometimes, you might spot someone on Facebook giving away an old cabinet for free.

If you live in London, you might even find the odd gem on the street labelled ‘free’, just waiting to be taken away.

Instead of scrolling or walking past, if you’re savvy, you can spend a small amount of time restoring and ‘upcycling’ any decent finds – before reselling them.

Viral furniture flipper Shayna Alnwick turned a small profit when she did exactly this during the first lockdown.

It started as a side hustle while she was on furlough (so not % passive at all) – but later evolved into a thriving Instagram brand called The Flipped Piece.

Of her journey, she told www.oldyorkcellars.com: ‘My first piece of furniture I ever received I found for free in a neighbourhood Facebook group.

‘One of my neighbours was clearing out their home during lockdown and I decided to take their kids’ wardrobe off their hands and painted it.

‘That led to painting everything in my home and eventually going to charity shops to find more furniture to paint and sell.

‘I sold a few pieces here and there on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree and it wasn’t much to start with, around £ a week by selling two pieces.

‘It slowly grew to making around £2, a month just selling furniture.’

There’s a bit more to it than just slapping a coat of paint on an old chair, but Shayna reckons it’s a viable option for anyone ‘willing to to learn the basics such as cleaning, sanding, priming and painting.’

She adds: ‘Knowing which products work well together is key as well as being able to use power tools to help you achieve better results.

‘Not being afraid of trying new colours out and really getting creative is the best thing you can do!’

Another plus is this passive income venture promotes sustainability – revitalising an existing item stops it from winding up in a skip.

But make sure you start small, practising with a piece or two. And of course, if you can’t transport furniture around easily (such as with a car), it’d be quite a challenge.

Start a blog or website

There are a number of ways a blog or website can make money:

• Display advertising
• Affiliate marketing
• Sponsored content
• Selling related products
• Selling related services.

However, creating and running a website to make money isn’t entirely a passive endeavour.

There’s a lot to consider, and you’ll often have to spend time on it even after the initial investment.

Choosing a niche

Firstly, you’ll need to figure out what your website will be about. Ideally, something that isn’t widely-covered by other blogs.

Welsh travel blogger Monica Stott began The Travel Hack all the way back in

Today, the blog, along with an online course she sells, covers all her monthly bills and expenses – but to succeed in and beyond, you’ve got to get specific.

She explains to www.oldyorkcellars.com: ‘It’s % worth starting a blog, but blogs are very different to what they were 10 years ago.

‘Blogs were once personal accounts where people shared their lives through stories and photos, but we now have social media for that so personal blogs are diminishing. 

‘Blogs are now used to share informative articles and the bloggers behind them share their expertise in a specific niche. It’s vital to have [one] – and you really need to prove you’re an expert and share valuable information that people are searching for.

‘Surprisingly, it’s often the mirco-niches that are most profitable. You can’t just start a blog about cooking. It needs to be really specific, such as a blog about recipes for toddlers, or food intolerances, or cooking using only an air fryer!’

Put the effort in

You’ll need to be passionate about (or at least interested in) your niche – as you’ll be spending more time than you think on it.

In many cases you’ll need to spend years building up a strong brand before you can expect any passive income on it.

US-based Vanessa Gordon runs an online publication called East End Taste Magazine, which brings her an income each month alongside her job as an English tutor.

But as she tells www.oldyorkcellars.com: ‘In total, per week, my website management time averages at 16 hours. Approximately 2 to 3 hours per day, adding more if I’m writing an article.

‘Anything that is worth it is never easy. If it were easy, there would be a line out the door to get in.’

Monica concurs, adding that though her blog is a financial success now, it’s taken years of graft to get it there.

‘The Travel Hack has been a work in progress since and has been a full time obsession!’ she admits.

‘Many, many hours have gone into the blog but very little financial investment. I have a laptop and a camera, but the real investments have been my time.

‘It was a side hustle until and then my full time job for a few years too.’ 

Today, Monica works on her blog sporadically. ‘I’ll work on it full time for a month but then I might not look at it again for six months.

‘But I’ll continue to be paid the same amount without so much as opening my laptop.’

Building your blog or website

Once you’ve nailed your niche, you then need to actually set up the site, which involves (among other things):

• Choosing a domain name
• Choosing your blog platform or website host
• Designing the website
• Deciding the type of content you’d like to publish
• Creating your content (writing, plus taking or finding photography)
• Optimising the site for SEO (search engine optimisation)
• Possibly setting up social media accounts for your blog.

If it sounds like a lot, then you’d be right. You’ll need to do your homework, and some of this may come with a small upfront cost.

Vanessa explains: ‘[You need] at least a basic understanding of the components of maintaining a website.

‘Educate yourself by reading relevant articles. YouTube can also be your best friend when it comes to WordPress and web design – and all of the components that come into play when running your own digital publication.’

Monica agrees, adding there are plenty of resources to get you started: ‘If someone wanted to start a blog to earn passive income these days, then they would be able to do it much faster than I did,’ she says.

‘There are so many tools, forums, courses, platforms and apps that make it all possible these days, so it’s much easier than it was in !’

Actually earning money

Say you’ve got all that sorted.

Your blog is up and running, and you’ve been producing great content that people are reading.

Now, you’ve got to consider the money-making side of things. This usually comes along when you’ve got a bit of an audience.

Running ads seems an obvious first step – as does joining retailer affiliate programmes (which earns you small percentage when someone clicks through from your website to another, and goes on to buy a product).

You don’t need to be sat at the screen to earn money when someone clicks on the add, or decides to make a purchase after reading one of your articles.

But how else can you make substantial passive income through your blog or website?

Kathi Kamleitner, from Glasgow, runs a popular Scotland travel blog called Watch Me See.

Her key to success was finding a saleable solution to a niche problem – by creating her own product and selling it through her blog.

Kathi tells www.oldyorkcellars.com: ‘Narrow your niche and make yourself known as the expert, or the go-to person for a very specific topic or problem.

‘Then develop a service or a product that solves this problem and can be scaled – the last part is very important for passive income.

‘Deciding what the ‘one thing’ should be might take some experimenting at first, but it will help attract the right people who need your help.

‘Thanks to my blog, I’ve become known as an expert itinerary planner for Scotland. For , I’m launching ready-made itineraries that [people can buy], pick up and follow easily.’

Write an ebook

Hey, they say everyone has a book in them, right?

If the video element of a course puts you off, as does the daily/weekly commitment of running a blog or website – but you love writing – you could consider launching an ebook.

Typically, you’d want to choose a subject that you have expertise in, that you’re willing to share with the world.

There are different ways to self-publish, but perhaps one of the most obvious is Amazon UK.

However, like most passive income possibilities, you’ll still need to invest your time into the project.

You’ll need to plan the book’s structure, write the copy, design and format the book, get it edited to avoid typos or grammatical errors.

That’s before you’ve even published it, or try to market it and encourage people to buy it.

It’s impossible to say how long the creation process could take – as it depends on the length of the book among other things.

It’s also not easy to say when the book will start making money, but once it’s out there, you can start promoting it.

Become a landlord

This one’s obvious, and probably quite annoying if you’ve got absolutely zero change of affording a second property (or a first property).

However, if you can afford to purchase a flat or house, renting it out will bring it extra money – as your tenant will pay a weekly or monthly rent to live in the space.

This seems to be one of the most ‘passive’ forms of income you can have – especially if you outsource maintenance and dealing with tenants to a letting agency.

But, again, it’s not accessible to everyone. Moving swiftly on…

Rent out your parking space

We know that renting houses, flats and even spare rooms can be lucrative – but what about parking spaces?

If you live in an area with a big demand for parking, and you own a space or garage that you don’t use, it’s possible to make money from it.

Websites such as Your Parking Space and ParkLet act as marketplaces for both renter and buyer.

And judging by what’s on offer in London, you could charge anywhere from £ to £ per month for your parking spot – depending on how desirable your location is.

Rent out equipment/your bike

Similarly, if you own a bike, or expensive household equipment that you’re not using – why not see if you can rent it out?

Spinlister allows people to rent bikes from anywhere in the world. Tool libraries (which allow people to pay for a day’s use of an expensive tool) are also becoming more popular.

Learn about cryptocurrency

Eep. This is a difficult one.

Cryptocurrencies are essentially digital cash – kept in virtual ‘wallets’ such as Blockchain.

If you truly know how they work, and can follow the trends, then you might consider investing in them – to see if you can game the market and earn some extra cash.

However, passive income expert Lisa Johnson says this is a ‘risky’ move – and she certainly isn’t wrong.

Cryptocurrencies don’t come with any legal protection like money in a bank does. And the value of currencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Shiba Inu seems to fluctuate quite rapidly.

If you don’t know much cryptocurrencies, best to do your research first.

Earn interest on your savings

An easier option for earning passive income is researching ways to make your existing money work harder.

For example, if you’re hoping to earn some passive income in order to save for a property, you may want to look into a Lifetime ISA (LISA).

Anyone under 40 can open a LISA, with funds kept in a savings account, locked until you go to purchase your first property (that you intend to live in) or until you’re

You can save up to £4, per tax year, with the government topping up whatever you’ve saved by 25% (£1, maximum).

It’s great if you don’t plan to touch this money until it’s time to buy a home or until you’re much older.

However, if there’s a chance you might need to access this money before then, it’s perhaps not the best option.

You’ll pay a penalty (getting less back than you personally put in, as well as losing the government top-up) if you need to remove the funds for another purpose.

Still, if you’ve got savings sitting there doing nothing, it’s worth exploring your options.

Try robo-investing

Similarly, there’s something called ‘robo-investing’ – which could help if you’re rubbish at saving.

Essentially, an app or online bank will make it easier for you to save (by setting up direct debits, reminders or rounding up your purchases to the nearest pound).

It will also invest any money you’ve got in an ISA, pension pot or another savings account, to try and grow the amount you have.

Usually, you can choose between ‘cautious’ and ‘adventurous’ options for these types of accounts.

Are you a DIY whizz? Love caring for your cat? Enjoy embroidery, painting or baking?

If you’ve got an iPhone, an internet connection and a skill or hobby, you can start your own YouTube channel – and potentially bring in money through advertising or sponsorship.

Today, it’s easy to start a channel without needing to purchase fancy equipment – as modern smartphones have high quality cameras.

Tripods (to hold your smartphone up) and plug-in microphones (to better record your voice) aren’t essential, but also aren’t that expensive to buy online either.

Your best bet is to make useful videos, such as recipes or how-tos, on topics that people will search for.

There are even videos on how to make YouTube videos and YouTube channels…

Again, it’s a good idea to have a niche topic in mind, and to research what videos already exist before you start filming.

Competing with established channels that already have big followings will be tough.

Sadly, it’s not an immediate moneymaker (and you’ll need 1, subscribers before you can run ads on your videos) – but if you’ve got the drive, it’s worth a shot.

Also worth keeping in mind that with YouTube, consistency is key. Pick a regular posting schedule – such as posting one video every Wednesday at 7pm – and try to stick to it.

Create a print-on-demand product

Last but not least: print-on-demand.

This option would probably work best for those with art and design skills.

Simply create a product – such as a t-shirt – featuring your design and start selling from your own shop.

Essentially, you design the product, run an online shop and deal with customers, but you don’t deal with the physical product itself. Another company makes it when an order comes in, then sends it out for you.

There are lots of places offering this type of service – including Shopify, Printify, Inkthreadable and Printful.

As always, you’ll need to invest time in this idea. To sell the product, you’ll also need to market it.

If you’d rather take care to manage every aspect of your product (including keeping the inventory) – then you’re veering into ‘starting a small business’ territory.

For most people, earning a bit of extra money - especially if you only do it now and again - means you won’t pay tax on anything you earn.

But you may have to start paying tax if you do it regularly and are reselling for a profit, or if you already have income from self-employment.

1. Fill in surveys online

There are plenty of survey websites out there that will pay you for simply giving your opinion on a whole range of topics, from sport to TV shows and even food.

Sometimes you'll be paid just a few pence for one answer surveys, going up to a few pounds for longer questionnaires.

Most of the time, you'll often need to build up points that you can then convert into money via PayPal or even vouchers.

Here are some of the most popular survey sites:

• Swagbucks - typically pays between 50p per survey, pays money via PayPal or vouchers
• OnePoll - typically pays 20p per survey, pays money via PayPal
  
• Newvistalive - typically pays £1 per survey, pays in vouchers

• YouGov - typically pays 50p per survey, pays money via bank transfer

2. Watch videos online

Swagbucks will also pay you to watch videos - be it short adverts, news content or even viral videos.

You'll be paid in Swagbucks points (shortened to SBs) which can then be redeemed for gift cards or cash.

The gift cards they offer come from over 1, retailers, including Amazon, iTunes and Tesco.

3. Get paid to Google

Qmee is an add-on to your browser that works in the background as you Google and brings up extra search results.

You get paid if you click on one of these results, usually between 4p and 15p - and sometimes as much as £1.

Of course, as you're only making a few pence each time, it can take a while for your earnings to add up - but it's not bad considering you're literally being paid to browse the internet.

Any cash made is paid to you via Paypal, with can be transferred into your main current account.

4. Get paid to watch TV

Telly addicts can take part in research panels through The Viewers, which is where programme makers ask for your feedback on certain shows.

You can attend face-to-face research groups, fill in surveys online from home - or do both.

You'll get at least £40 for face-to-face group discussions, while online surveys typically pay £1 to £3 depending on how long they are.

You can get paid via a bank transfer, PayPal or gift vouchers.

5. Use cashback sites

Cashback sites do exactly as the name suggests.

You'll get money back for a qualifying shop when you provide proof of a receipt, and as long as you click a link from a cashback website.

Some of the most popular ones in the UK are Topcashback and Quidco.

Once you've built up your earnings - which can take a few weeks to clear in your cashback account - you can then transfer the money to your bank.

6. Have a clear out

If you've got unwanted Christmas presents, or anything in the attic that is gathering dust, then you could make easy money by selling it.

There are free ways to list your goods for sale online.

You don't pay any fees to sell on Facebook Marketplace and it is free to list items on Gumtree.

eBay charges a final value fee of %, including postage, plus 30p per order - this is deducted automatically from your sales.

7. Sell your rubbish

They say one man's rubbish is another man's treasure and it's true: you can sell everything from toilet rolls to wine corks online.

Many wine corks are listed on eBay as being ideal for craft and wedding decorations, with some sellers offering 50 used corks for £5.

And Martin Lewis' website MoneySavingExpert found toilet rolls were selling for as much as 14p on eBay, with over bundles being sold in a three-month period.

Several supermarkets have launched reverse vending machines were you can bring back plastic goods in exchange for vouchers.

Sainsbury’s will pay you 5p for every plastic bottle or drinks, while Iceland launched a similar trial which pays customers in vouchers worth 10p.

8. Rent out stuff you don’t use

From your driveway to your spare room, you could be making money by renting out anything at home that you're not using.

For example, you can list your driveway on websites including Kerb and JustPark, although both take a percentage of booking fees.

Kerb takes 20% of any booking fee, while JustPark takes a 3% booking fee.

Or if you want to let out a spare room, the Rent a Room scheme means you don’t pay tax on the first £7, you make each year.

9. Start a side hustle

Whatever your passion is, you could see if you can make extra cash after hours from your day job by starting a side hustle.

Perhaps you're particularly arty, or maybe you like making YouTube videos or blogging.

Some people also make cash from baking or from even writing books and self-publishing them.

You never know, it could be the start of a new career if you start to make serious cash from it - although again, remember to check any tax implications.

Enter competitions

Some online and magazine competitions are completely free to enter - so if you're feeling lucky, it doesn't hurt to have a go.

SuperLucky is a well-known website which lists current UK competitions and is run by serial "comper" Di Coke who has bagged £, worth of prizes over 20 years.

But, what if you're looking for genuine ways to make money online, either in the UK or abroad. What if you want or need to work from home, or want to work as you travel or just want more flexibility to your work life.

I'm aware that there are MANY schemes and get-rich-quick idea floating around. But let's assume that you're a real person who doesn't want to lose their limited life savings and just wants to work hard and get some income in, preferably asap. Getting a job is one thing, but if you want to make money online as a beginner, how do you start?

So, let's give you some options, which will ACTUALLY work. I'm talking about schemes which are available in the UK (as that's where I'm based) but many of these will work just great from wherever you are in the world.) None of these are instant solutions which will give you money today (or maybe even tomorrow), but they WILL all earn you a decent income within 12 months if you work hard at building it up.

Before we get started, if you're working at home with kids, you're DEFINITELY going to need ways to keep them occupied so you can work. Here are 14 easy quiet activities for kids&#; you NEED these to save your sanity!

Start a Blog/ Website

It seems pretty obvious that I would start with this. After all, I'm a blogger and you're reading this&#; on my blog. Not really sure what a &#;blog' is? It's basically a website- with a more personal feel.

Is it REALLY a genuine way to make money online?

Abso-fricking-lutely. My friend, when I quit my job to travel Europe in a motorhome, I started this blog as an online diary. I didn't even know you COULD make money with a blog. Less than two years later, I'm making more than many of the full-time staff my husband employs (admittedly, CV is about to severely damage that, but I'll find ways to adapt, just like everybody else.)

NOTE: Blogging is NOT easy. It's not an idyllic, chilled, only work 10 minutes a day and then go lie in the sunshine and read a book. It is HARD WORK. Like, possibly the hardest thing I've EVER done in my entire adult life- and I'm an ex-Navy helicopter navigator and an air traffic controller&#;!! (On second thoughts, working with some of my ex-colleagues may have been harder&#;!) Still, being able to be your own boss and work from home is EPIC and worth all the effort.

How much money can you earn blogging in the UK?

Like most online income, how much you can make depends almost entirely on how much time and effort you're willing to put in. Anyone who says you can make good money within a month is lying to you/ trying to sell you something! But you CAN make decent income within 12 months, and most likely a decent full-time income within 2 years.

Start a Youtube Channel

Yeah, sticking with things which are hard work!! 🙂 But starting a youtube channel is honestly a genuine way to make money online. Admittedly, I have found more success with my blog- but that's because I prefer writing to being on camera. It's not my happy place.

BUT, the world loves video. People watch countless hours of Youtube EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. So if you know anything or can show anything or have any skill at all, start a channel and see what happens!  Do you know how to play guitar, to sing, to grow vegetables, to save money, to clean, to do yoga&#; literally ANYTHING you can teach people.

And no, it's not &#;over-saturated'. How many times how you read an article on the same thing? Heck, how many posts/ articles have you read on how to many money online (like this one!) People are happy to watch something similar said in a different way, so don't let that fact that you're just starting put you off!

Is it really a genuine way to earn money online?

Definitely- if you're dedicated. But again, it's a lot of work. I've had my channel for over 2 years and I barely make £/ month with it. On the flip side, I know others who have had a channel for just over a year and are making several thousand pounds a month regularly! Also, it's free to set-up and start -you can begin with a camera either on your phone or laptop, so there's no big outlay of expenses. Why not give it a go!?!

My top tips for making money online with Youtube? Pick one subject and talk about it a lot. And post 2/3 videos a week for maximum growth. I barely do one a week, so I'm definitely not an expert, but there are plenty of videos on Youtube about how to start and grow on there- and I do believe there's room for us all!

Teach English Online

Teaching English online is a fantastic and genuine way to make money online- especially in the current climate while people can't go to actual lessons. If you are an English native speaker, companies are BEGGING for you to come and teach their employees or students, especially if you're from England or the UK. (Don't panic if you're one of our English-speaking cousins around the world- there are PLENTY of opportunities for Americans, Canadians and Australians to teach English online too. )

Is it a genuine way to make money fast online?

Fast? Possibly not- although it's a heck of a lot quicker than starting a blog or a Youtube channel! But it's not going to be instant and, depending on which company you sign up with, there will be checks, trials and you might have to work for free for a short period while they assess you. But realistically you can be making decent money within a couple of months. Expect to make around £8-£10/ hour without any qualifications; more if you have one.

What do you need?

A laptop with camera and somewhere quiet to work. People are paying good money for your service, and you need to make sure they get their money's worth.

Some key places to start are:

Teach ANYTHING online

Do you have a skill? I bet you do!

Every single one of us can do something which most people struggle with. What do people always ask your advice with? What do you find easy to do which other people don't?

Can you:

• Bake bread easily
• Clean a house in an hour and have it sparkling
• Know how to get the best from your kids- without yelling!
• Grow flowers or vegetables
• Live on a budget
• Take amazing photos or videos
• Play an instrument
• Speak a language
• Make money online!

Literally- ANYTHING. People love knowledge and they love learning online. Create a course and teach them what YOU know. You can then sell your course through Udemy or Teachable.

Is it a genuine way to make money fast online?

Actually, it's a pretty fast way to make some money- although it's not free. You'll need to pay for the course hosting platform, unless you use Youtube and make the videos private (meaning people can't see them without a specific link.)

But it will mostly just be your time and effort which goes into creating the course- so if you have that then it's a great way to get some money coming in within a short period of time.

Start a Podcast

Did you know you can make money podcasting? Oh yes you can. It's another one where you need to build an audience first and then work on getting sponsors, but some people make over £k a MONTH with their podcast!

I personally have never done or uploaded a podcast, but I know many bloggers who do them as an alternative to a Youtube channel- and these are some BIG bloggers! There are a million tutorials on Youtube and Google to get you started if that's something which appeals to you.

Sell your photos online

Are you a good photographer? Do people always complement your photos? Why not sell them online?

There are plenty of sites where you can make money online by selling your photos, such as:

• Your own website- by far the best place
• Adobe stock
• Shutterstock
• Etsy
• Fotomoto

You could also turn your photos in postcards, t-shirts or mugs and sell them on Amazon or Etsy. And if you get REALLY good, you could start selling your own photography tutorials online, or create a course teaching other people how to take spectacular photos too!

Is it REALLY a genuine way to make money online?

Yep, you really can make money selling your photos. Of course, there's a lot of competition, so you need to hustle, but the better your photos are the more you can charge for them. Some photos sell for £10 or less, while popular photographers make several £ per shot!

Freelance Writing/ Writing competitions

Love to write but don't want to start a blog? I'm not sure I blame you&#;!!

There are PLENTY of ways you can make money online by writing- mostly by being a freelance writer. You can write posts for companies who pay, you can write posts for other bloggers, you can write for magazines, both online and for print. Anywhere where there is writing, there's normally an opportunity for freelancers.

Also, you can enter writing competitions, such as this one where you could win £!!! Prize amounts vary, but if you've got the gift of storytelling, why not make it work for you!

Is freelance writing a genuine way to make money online?

Yes- I personally know several people who do this as a vanlife job while on the road. They have a list of publications/ bloggers who they write for regularly, or who they contact frequently to see if there is any requirement. Some of them have more stable income than others, but they all seem to make it work. It's a bit like blogging in a lot of ways- the income isn't guaranteed.

How much money can you make?

I have been asked to write articles for several outlets. One quoted me £ for a word article, another quoted me £ for a word one. Many places will pay per word or per article- but you'll need a portfolio/ long-standing relationship to get the really high rates.

Places to start:

• Fiverr
• Upwork
• People Per Hour
• Magazines in a niche you a knowledgable about- just find the details for the submissions editor and contact them with a story idea.

Freelance editing

This one is harder to break in to, but again, if English is your thing, then editing other people's writing is a great way to earn some genuine money online.

Editors/ publishing houses will send over manuscripts and ask you to edit them. My mum used to do this when we were kids, although admittedly that was a while ago and the process has likely changed.

Your best bet is to contact online or nearby publishers and see what they say- once you're in the door, you're in!

Freelance Graphic Design/ video editor

Know how to use iMovie, Final Cut Pro or create documents in Powerpoint? You can be a freelance Graphic Designer/ editor.

There are several sites (which we use weekly for my husband's business) where you can sign up and people will contact you for work they need doing.

For example, Mr WB regularly needs presentations creating or PDFs smartened up. I am trying to use it right now to get someone to create a new Youtube intro for me&#; as soon as I can find the time I'll get on that!

Yep. Like most of the ideas for earning money online listed here, if you're offering a service or something which people don't know how to do, they will pay you to do it for them. So graphic design, powerpoint, video editing- all useful and important services which people are willing to pay for.

Website designer

In a similar vein, people may decent money to get someone to set up a website, customise it, speed it up and many other things. In this online world, if you understand the tech, you can always find work- and a lot of work.

Again, be patient and not too greedy and people will recommend you again and again. You need to find one or two clients and use their websites as a testimonial for future business. Luckily, you won't have to invest too much at first other than your time- and maybe setting up your own website as a brochure.

Heck, it's part of what my husband does for a living! You just need to get out and market yourself- getting started is the hard it.

Understand Pinterest? Know how to make pins, answer emails, moderate Facebook groups, arrange Instagram posts? You can become a Virtual Assistant (VA).

Bloggers and many other types of online companies are desperate for people to help them organise and stay on top of their social media and online presence. And you can DEFINITELY do it from anywhere.

How much can you expect to make?

I would recommend not being greedy. Start small, and do the best job you possibly can do. Your blogger/ company will likely recommend you&#; and that's how it grows. Don't take on more clients than you can handle.

You can expect to make ££15/ hour and don't need any sort of qualification. But, please remember this is someone's livelihood. Don't lie or say you can do something if you can't- take the time to learn about it first.

Is this a genuine way to make money in the UK?

Definitely! I currently employ my daughter (who's a graphic design student) to help me create Pinterest and Facebook images and do lots of other jobs for my blog.

These aren't the HARD jobs- they're often the boring but necessary ones- accepting people into Facebook groups, replying to emails from random suppliers who haven't even bothered to read your blog, posting on Twitter and Instagram &#; and more little jobs which take a lot of time&#; and a blogger doesn't HAVE a lot of time.

The bottom line- pick one of these genuine ways of making money online in the UK- and go for it!

So, there are several options for things you can start TODAY. I can pretty much guarantee you won't make money from them straight away, but they are all long-term, sustainable and genuine ways to make money online UK which you can get started on straight away.

Over the past 4 years, Lisa’s gone from being in debt to earning a seven-figure salary, 90% of which she says comes from ‘passive’ or ‘semi passive’ income streams.

These include creating online courses, consulting work and guiding people to diversify their income streams.

She adds: ‘In reality, even renting out a spare room counts because ‘passive income’ simply means ‘not trading time for money’.

‘Making the course content… could only take a few hours,’ explains Isabel. ‘But editing it, formatting it all on a course platform, and then figuring out how to sell it can be a time-sucker.

‘It helps if you have some skin in the game. Everyone is calling themselves a coach these days, so it’s tough to stand out.

‘If you already have a network in whatever field you work in, it makes sense to run your idea past them first and use them as guinea pigs. Have a look around at what else is out there and try to find your niche.

‘Running a few live webinars to test the waters is a good way of doing this, before committing to making a whole course.’

Five-star reviews – along with genuine recommendations from friends – are the key to a successful course, Isabel adds.

If you’re a dab hand with a camera, selling photography to stock image sites might be an option for you.

Galleries like Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Getty Images/iStock and Yay Images all accept photography – and you’ll receive a percentage every time a photo of yours is sold.

‘The Travel Hack has been a work in progress since and has been a full time obsession!’ she admits.

‘Many, many hours have gone into the blog but very little financial investment. I have a laptop and a camera, but the real investments have been my time.

‘It was a side hustle until and then my full time job for a few years too.’ 

Today, Monica works on her blog sporadically. ‘I’ll work on it full time for a month but then I might not look at it again for six months.

‘But I’ll continue to be paid the same amount without so much as opening my laptop.’

Building your blog or website

Once you’ve nailed your niche, you then need to actually set up the site, which involves (among other things):

• Choosing a domain name

Monica agrees, adding there are plenty of resources to get you started: ‘If someone wanted to start a blog to earn passive income these days, then they would be able to do it much faster than I did,’ she says.

‘There are so many tools, forums, courses, ways of making money online uk, platforms and apps that make it all possible these days, so it’s much easier than it was in !’

Actually earning money

Say you’ve got all that sorted.

Your blog is up and running, and you’ve been producing great content that people are reading.

Now, you’ve got to consider the money-making side of things. This usually comes along when you’ve got a bit of an audience.

Running ads seems an obvious first step – as does joining retailer affiliate programmes (which earns you small percentage when someone clicks through from your website to another, and goes on to buy a product).

You don’t need to be sat at the screen to earn money when someone clicks on the add, or decides to make a purchase after reading one of your articles.

But how else can you make substantial passive income through your blog or website?

Kathi Kamleitner, from Glasgow, runs a popular Scotland travel blog called Watch Me See.

Her key to success was finding a saleable solution to a niche problem – by creating her own product and selling it through her blog.

Kathi tells www.oldyorkcellars.com: ‘Narrow your niche and make yourself known as the expert, or the go-to person for a very specific topic or problem.

‘Then develop a service or a product that solves this problem and can be scaled – the last part is very important for passive income.

‘Deciding what the ‘one thing’ should be might take some experimenting at first, but it will help attract the right people who need your help.

‘Thanks to my blog, I’ve become known as an expert itinerary planner for Scotland. ForI’m launching ready-made itineraries that [people can buy], pick up and follow easily.’

Write an ebook

Hey, they say everyone has a book in them, right?

If the video element of a course puts you off, as does the daily/weekly commitment of running a blog or website – but you love writing – you could consider launching an ebook.

Typically, you’d want to choose a subject that you have expertise in, that you’re willing to share with the world.

There are different ways to self-publish, but perhaps one of the most obvious is Amazon UK.

However, like most passive income possibilities, you’ll still need to invest your time into the project.

You’ll need to plan the book’s structure, write the copy, design and format the book, get it edited to avoid typos or grammatical errors.

That’s before you’ve even published it, or try to market it and encourage people to buy it.

It’s impossible to say how long the creation process could take – as it depends on the length of the book among other things.

It’s also not easy to say when the book will start making money, but once it’s out there, you can start promoting it.

Become a landlord

This one’s obvious, and probably quite annoying if you’ve got absolutely zero change of affording a second property (or a first property).

However, if you can afford to purchase a flat or house, renting it out will bring it extra money – as your tenant will pay a weekly or monthly rent to live in the space.

This seems to be one of the most ‘passive’ forms of income you can have – especially if you outsource maintenance and dealing with tenants to a letting agency.

But, again, it’s not accessible to everyone. Moving swiftly on…

Rent out your parking space

We know that renting houses, flats and even spare rooms can be lucrative – but what about parking spaces?

If you live in an area with a big demand for parking, and you own a space or garage that you don’t use, it’s possible to make money from it.

Websites such as Your Parking Space and ParkLet act as marketplaces for both renter and buyer.

And judging by what’s on offer in London, you could charge anywhere from £ to £ per month for your parking spot – depending on how desirable your location is.

Rent out equipment/your bike

Similarly, if you own a bike, or expensive household equipment that you’re not using – why not see if you can rent it out?

Spinlister allows people to rent bikes from anywhere in the world. Tool libraries (which allow people to pay for a day’s use of an expensive tool) are also becoming more popular.

Learn about cryptocurrency

Eep. This is a difficult one.

Cryptocurrencies are essentially digital cash – kept in virtual ‘wallets’ such as Blockchain.

If you truly know how they work, and can follow the trends, then you might consider investing in them – to see if you can game the market and earn some extra cash.

However, passive income expert Lisa Johnson says this is a ‘risky’ move – and she certainly isn’t wrong.

Cryptocurrencies don’t come with any legal protection like money in a bank does. And the value of currencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Shiba Inu seems to fluctuate quite rapidly.

If you don’t know much cryptocurrencies, best to do your research first.

Earn interest on your savings

An easier option for earning passive income is researching ways to make your existing money work harder.

For example, if you’re hoping to earn some passive income in order to save for a property, you may want to look into a Lifetime ISA (LISA).

As always, you’ll need to invest time in this idea. To sell the product, you’ll also need to market it.

If you’d rather take care to manage every aspect of your product (including keeping the inventory) – then you’re veering into ‘starting a small business’ territory.
