This was the goal I set myself after losing my job back in I can report that I have since more than doubled that amount through working for myself. 

It can be hard work some weeks to fit everything in, and I have to remind myself regularly that by working for myself the goal was to get more time with the kids. Sometimes that means I need to do a lot of my work in the evenings when the kids are asleep. 

But making extra cash from home as worked great for me, and I want to give you some ideas for how you could make that vital £1, a month.

Deliver Amazon parcels 

You could become an Amazon delivery person through their Amazon Flex scheme. 

There are a ton of benefits to signing up to working with Amazon Flex. You can do as much or as little by way of hours as you wish. Plus you don’t need any qualifications. 

You will need to have a car and you will need to set aside time to make your deliveries. 

Amazon wants you to pass a background check before you are able to get started with deliveries. But once you’ve done this all you need to do is use the Amazon Flex app to to find available delivery “blocks” of time in your area. 

When you see these blocks you will also see the expected earnings if you take the block. 

Once you’ve booked a block, you head to your local Amazon location to pick up the parcels then head out on your deliveries. You will be paid by direct deposit by Amazon once per week. 

Amazon is recruiting for delivery drivers right now in areas across the UK. 

How much can you make with Amazon Flex?

Amazon Flex pays £13 to £15 an hour. This pay is based on how many deliveries you make across a block of time. 

There is an hours cap of 24 hours from Monday to Sunday. This means the absolute maximum you could make per week doing this is £ But if you work the maximum number of hours per month than you can make £1, 

There is however the possibility that Amazon won’t have enough blocks to offer you this maximum, although you may find that at busy times like Christmas it is a little easier. 

Another downside is the wear and tear on your car, which you will need to consider when it comes to your earnings. 

Dog/pet boarding and walking 

If you love animals then setting up your own dog, cat or small pet sitting service or dog walking service could be ideal. 

There are a few ways to go about doing this. 

You could set yourself up as an independent animal sitter/walker in your area. You will want to get a website sorted out and try to get it ranking on Google so that when people in your area search for cat sitters or dog sitters in your town, you pop up on the first page of results. 

If you set up your own business you could also try to advertise locally either in online listings, the local newspaper or in notice boards in community centres and shops. 

As an independent pet sitter you could offer to board animals, which you would need to do with dogs, or sell a pop-in service where you visit the client’s home once or twice a day to feed their pets. 

If you don’t fancy striking out on your own then you could look into the Tailster website. This is a community of pet walkers, boarders and sitters. 

The site connects people offering to look after pets with clients who need someone to care for their animal. 

Some people who use the site already have a pet sitting business set up and they use Tailster to help them find clients.

I recommend getting started with a very clear vision of your goals and a very specific idea of your niche. Writing about stuff that interests you isn’t going to cut it if you’re in it to make money.

• Reach out to brands that have their own blog or magazine. Pitch some ideas to them and show them you could write content for them. 
• Sign up to freelance writing websites. There are several websites where you can connect with people looking for writers. Upwork is a good one and Fiverr can also be good when you’re starting out, but the fees paid via this platform can be very low.

Design and sell printables 

You can make printables to sell as online downloads from your own website or on marketplaces like Etsy for free. 

It doesn’t cost you anything but the time it takes to design the product!

I have designed two printable planner products for my parenting blog. These bring in a little extra income every month but I am planning to add them to Etsy to get them more widely seen – stay tuned to find out how that goes!

Products you can make and sell as printables include: 

• Wall art
• Planners
• Checklists 
• Labels for the house
• Organisers 
• Invitations to occasions such as baby showers and weddings 
• Quizzes and game sheets to be used at parties 
• Decorations for parties including table numbers and banners 

I use Canva to create my printables for free. It doesn’t cost anything to use the basic version of Canva. You don’t get access to premium graphics and features but the free version has worked fine for me to create lovely PDFs. 

Successful sellers on Etsy bring in thousands of pounds a month with their printables. But it is a very crowded market. 

You will need to do a lot of work upfront to get the store set up and then try to promote it elsewhere on platforms such as social media. 

Selling digital products is a great way to go, because once your products are made and uploaded they’re all done, no more work required on that front. 

Other platforms you can use to make printables are: 

• PicMonkey – which does charge an annual fee for usage but has a ton of great design options. 
• Photoshop – an expensive option but featuring tons of options for designing printable posters and artwork. 
• Snappa 
• Crello

Find genuine data entry jobs in the UK

You don’t need any experience to get started with this work from home side hustle. The hours are flexible and really down to you and how much work you want to take on.

You will need a computer and possibly be expected to complete some kind of test assessing your skills before you can get started with particular companies.

But once you get going you could make a nice bit of extra income!

You can find data entry jobs at remote working jobs sites such as Clickworker. This site has a range of different types of work you can do remotely and data entry is one of them.

Another option is Amazon MTurk which connects companies who need tasks such as data entry done with workers wanting to earn extra cash.

Create and sell your own ebook 

Everyone has at least one book in them! Have you ever dreamed of writing your own novel? Or do you have a non-fiction book idea that might help others?

You don’t have to have a book deal or agent in order to sell ebooks. Anyone can publish a book on Amazon. You can also sell your own ebook from your website, which is what I do.

One of your biggest challenges will be motivating yourself to get writing. Start with an idea, then write out how you will structure that idea. If you’re writing a how-to book then think about the topics you need to cover to give the reader everything they need to know about this. That then gives you an idea of your different chapter titles.

Make your own products 

Are you crafty? If so you could make some extra cash by making your own products to sell online! What you make is up to you but there is a market for basically everything, from jewellery to rustic furniture.

Websites like Etsy and eBay make this easy to get started with, but in order to make good money from this you need to stand out from the crowd.

Marketing your products on social media can be a great way to increase your success rate.

A bookkeeper is not like an accountant. Your role as a bookkeeper would involve keeping tabs on the day-to-day financial transactions of a company.

Your work may involved updating financial records, paying bills or checking records for accuracy.

You don’t need to have a professional qualification, but there are courses out there such as with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers to help you learn what you need to do.

Earning cashback

Just as you'd expect from the name, cashback websites give you cash back when you spend online.

TopCashback and Quidco are two of the most popular and sometimes you can earn hundreds.

When you're shopping, make sure you click through the websites to get some extra cash.

Both have widgets you can download so you never forget.

They are free to use but there are plus memberships which cost £5 a year and can give you a higher rate of cashback.

Surf the web for cash

One way you can earn and surf is by downloading and registering with the Qmee app or browser add on.

It's works by helping advertises reach targeted users - so the adverts will be more tailored for you. If you click on one of the ads you like, you'll be paid.

Usually it's around p a search but you can earn up to £1. The cash is then paid to you via Paypal.

Install an app

With Ipsos Media Cell - consumer data tracking software - you will earn a £20 voucher just by installing an app on your phone.

You also have to fill in a quick survey.

You then get £10 every month that you keep the app installed on your phone.

The app is owned by renowned research company IPSOS Mori.

It’s not just for supermarkets either as you can earn with the likes of Superdrug and Boots too.

Free postcode lottery

There's a lottery called Pick My Postcode, which is free to enter and you could win sizeable cash prizes in its daily draws.

You win if your postcode is drawn. It's not likely you'll win, but as it's free, there's no harm in having a go.

Premium bonds are just like normal savings accounts that let you take money in and out whenever you want - with one key difference.

Instead of interest being paid every month, the money you put into the account works as tickets for a monthly prize draw.

It could earn you anywhere between £25 and £1million, tax-free.

Reclaim cash in old bank accounts

Brits have £15billion lying forgotten in old bank accounts, pensions, life assurance and investments.

Rent out your driveway

You can charge people to use your driveway.

Apps and sites like JustPark connect drivers with a nearby free driveways, and you can decided what times you don't mind yours being used.

For instance, if you know your car won't be on the driveway between 9am and 5pm then you can advertise your space.

You can choose how much you charge and get paid straight into your bank or Paypal account.

You can register your driveway for free but bear in mind they'll take a commission so you'll need to factor that in.

Rent out stuff you don't use often

You can make easy money by renting out anything from toys to bikes or camera equipment on sites such as Fat Lama where you can set your own prices.

The company will take a 15 per cent cut if someone accepts your offer but it also has an insurance policy to protect your items against loss, theft or damage.

Rent out a room

Landlords who rent out rooms to lodgers now have a rent-a-room allowance of £7,

Alternatively, you could rent out a room, or even your whole house, on Airbnb.

You can set your own prices, but UK users in London report typically earning almost £3, a year through Airbnb.

One woman told us she makes £14, a year from renting out a spare room.

Of course, if you make more than £7,, you'll have to fill out a tax return and pay tax.

Rent out your car

Rental companies such as Easycar match car owners with renters.

The website says average earnings can reach £1, while regular users can earn up to £3, per year.

For example, you could get paid £ a month for renting out a Ford Escort for just five days.

Store stuff for a fee

All that space in your loft or shed could be gathering money rather than just dust.

Websites such as StoreMates let you list space for free and you can earn up to £40 a month and there is also a 15 per cent service fee for the renter.

Just make sure your home insurance covers you for whatever is being stored.

Cook meals for neighbours

You could sell your baked goods or offer to host and cook dishes for people on meal-sharing app EatWith.

You can sign up, create a profile and take bookings from people wanting to pay to eat in your home or share in a delicious foodie experience with you.

Put your home in a film

You can rent out your home for photoshoots or even a film shoot and make some serious money.

There are location agencies such as AmazingSpace in London which will pay you to rent out your home or garden.

You might not always get the full value - someone might pay you £18 for one worth £20 - but it's cash you can spend where you actually need to.

Sell your hair

If you've got long luscious locks and you're thinking of getting the chop, why not make a bit of money out of it by flogging your hair online.

London based Hair Harvest buys hair by the ponytail to make bespoke wigs made from real hair that's ethically sourced.

Bloomsbury Wigs - the side of the business that makes the wigs - mainly sell to cancer patients who've lost their hair through chemotherapy, alopecia sufferers and members from the trans community.

The amount they pay depends on the length, the colour and the condition, but you could earn up to £ for the right type.

Simply put your hair in a ponytail and cut above the band, pop it in the post and the experts will assess it. If they don't want it they'll send it back.

Flog stuff on eBay

It's obvious but selling unwanted items such as clothes and homeware on auction website eBay can earn you extra cash.

You don't even need to go to the post office anymore - you can choose to have couriers pick up the items from your home.

Wherever you happen to be with your mobile phone you can make money.

There’s a whole range of apps you can use for literally any situation.

Here are some examples of how you can make money from your phone:

• Taking photos of shop displays
• Surveys
• Submitting shopping receipts
• Paid for walking
• Selling unwanted items

You can even get paid not to use your phone.

6. Make Money From Casino Offers

Another element of Matched Betting but worth a mention in its own right, otherwise it’s often overlooked is exploiting profit from casino offers.

First, you start with sign-ups, many of which can be combined with cashback offers.

Once signed up to online casinos you can start doing regular risk-free offers such as 10 free spins, or risk-free deposits and get 50 free spins types offers for existing customers.

With risk-free offers, you don’t risk losing a penny of your own money.

If you build your bank you may want to try and give low-risk casino offers ago.  We only do these offers when the odds are in ours, the player’s favour.

I find my casino offers predominately from Profit Accumulator via their “Casino Offers” category for signs ups and checking the daily Reloads and picking off the best offers each day.

• Daily opportunities to profit either from risk-free or low risk upwards.
• Extremely flexible, can do offers pretty much anytime day or night before the offer expires.
• Opportunity for some nice profits if you have luck on your side.   I made £’s and even £’s some months.
• Con’s:
• You’d be advised to have a £+ bankroll before you start doing low-risk casino offers as part of your basic bankroll management.

7. Online Paid Market Research

A number of companies offer ways you can get paid for market research jobs online.

From the comfort of your home you can take part in:

• Surveys
• Focus Groups
• User Testing and Observation tasks.

Some individual tasks pay relatively high for the time you put in, so it has plenty of potential if it’s something you like doing.

8. Arbitrage Betting (Arbing)

Arbitrage Betting is a way to make money from bookmakers that don’t require any free bets or other promotions like Matched Betting does.

Arbing is kind of related to Matched Betting, however, when profiting from bookmakers offers you are advised not to arb bookies or your account will be restricted from receiving future offers if you are gubbed.  So, therefore, it is often overlooked as a source of profit.

The intention when arbing is to place 2 bets (or more) so that whatever the outcome of the event you guarantee a profit.

In simple terms, if the back bet odds at the bookmaker are higher than the lay betting odds at the betting exchange you can make a profit.

People are posting arbs through the day in the Profit Accumulator forum as well as sharing tips and general discussion around the subject.

Potential Earnings: Totally varies depending on your bankroll, time input, your set up for alerts, your bookie stakes and the current arbing opportunities.   Some months I easily made £’s extra, many from arbs posted in in the Profit Accumulator forums.

• Pros:
• Profits tax-free
• It’s a very simple strategy (back high odds, lay lower odds).
• Easy to set up alerts for
• 0% exchange commissions currently mean higher profits
• Cons:
• Helps to have a large bankroll to place large stakes for bigger profits.  Or simply to arb as many opportunities as possible to make it even more worthwhile.
• Not good to arb accounts that are still giving you Matched Betting offers you can profit from.

9. Bank Switching £+ a Time

Time-wise bank switching is a very lucrative income earner.

In total it might take an hour of your time spread out over a matter of days and you can earn ££ a time.  Sometimes even more.

Plus if you and maybe a partner switch it can be a nicer earner for the household.  Plus sometimes you can recommend friends and earn even more.

You just need to be prepared to switch your main current account or have a spare account available set up to switch.

Switching is a really simple and straightforward process and typically completes in just 7 days.

Swagbucks

Swagbucks is similar to a surveys site but offers lots more ways to earn money, so worthy of mention in its own right.

With an age limit of just 13, it’s one of the better ways for teenagers to make money.

You can earn rewards for surfing the web and completing tasks for rewards.

You can download apps and get rewarded for watching videos or just setting them to play and leaving them.

By itself, it is not a big earner so it will work best if you combine it with other similar methods as well.

However, it’s one of the best of its type so will give you a good feel of what can be achieved at the lowest levels.

Make money selling your clutter.

Most of us accumulate so much these days.

However, it’s good to know most of this “stuff” has value to someone else.

The key is finding the best places to sell these items, either for the highest prices or just quickly and easily.

So far I’ve covered:

Paid Online Surveys

Online surveys are one of the easiest and most basic ways to make money online at home.

They are an ideal starting point if you have no money and are unsure about starting any other methods of making money.  Once you realise you can make money, you’ll perhaps be better off putting your time into more rewarding methods.

However, some people really like completing surveys as a nice easy way to make ££ a month.

If you want to give surveys ago, perhaps the best starting point would be Prolific.  You will be completing actual studies, and the earn rate per hour is the highest you will find, plus once you start a survey you don’t get screened out.

Cashback

The best cashback sites are primarily used to save money on all kinds of purchases.

However, you can also use them to actively make money.  One site, in particular, is actually designed to help you do just that, read my Oh My Dosh review.

They are ideal for combining with Matched Betting sign up offers and profiting from both the offer via the Matched Betting instructions and also get cashback on top.

You can typically get cashback on Bookmakers, casinos and online bingo site sign up offers.  See my Quidco Review which highlighted well over £ in cashback available.

You can also do tasks for cashback like using a financial service such as opening a bank account or sometimes daily smaller amounts for doing a search of a comparison site or a for a single click.

So if you are not already a member of both, they are both worth joining just for the passive income and money-saving effect.

Mystery Shopping

Not one you strictly do from your house, but if you are out and about often, enjoy shopping or eating out, thenbecoming a Mystery Shopper might be for you.

If you join a wide range of sites you’ll find you are offered tasks on a daily basis.

It’s then just a matter of choosing which Mystery shopping jobs are worthwhile money wise and within reach of your location.

Some jobs pay in freebies. Only you will know if this is worth your while.

Mystery Shopping works well around other jobs. It works well when combined with “Get Paid Too” tasks that might also be available in close proximity.

• Pros: If you are out and about you can fit around other tasks. Combines well with other task apps.
• Cons:Might need transport to reach some of the job locations.

Start a Blog or Website

If you are serious about finding out how to make a living from home then blogging offers loads of potential.

The best way to learn is to get started and the sooner you start the better because blogging is a slow burn.

Check out my How to Make Money Blogging for Beginners – to your first £post.  That first £ is key, once you make that you are on the way.

The reality is, it can and most likely will take 6 to 12 months to start earning good money, but once you do it can really start to snowball and grow.

Here are 3 real examples of how to earn extra money blogging.  Given time, it’s possible to make a £+ a month from each of these example methods you could choose from:

• Sponsored Posts
• Affiliate Marketing
• Display ads

These days many people have or can fairly quickly gain social media followings, quite often dedicated to a specific interest.  Instagram is a great example.   You can then share your blog posts with your following.  This can help with motivation in the short term while you are getting little traffic from elsewhere.

There are successful blogs dedicated to all kinds of hugely popular interests:

• Various diets for slimming or types of cuisines
• Health and fitness, Yoga, etc
• All kinds of creative and artistic type accounts

Without the pressure of launching a blog, you could simply learn in the background how to piece a website together and all the other components that are probably overlooked prior to starting, e.g various different plugins, how to do images.  Which can all be learnt and tested behind the scenes without going public.

For example,Cashback can be combined withMatched Betting bookmaker, casino and bingo sign up offers.   Or you could use cashback with retail arbitrage and any buying you do in bulk especially if it’s online.

Plus while you are outsourcing maybe slot in some Get Paid To do tasks or a Mystery Shop all while you have a Get Paid to Walk app on your phone.

Extra Money Making Tips

You are only going to make money if you act on the methods you find.

Make making extra money a habit.  Whether, it’s checking daily Matched Betting offers or surveys, or always checking for Mystery shopping opportunities before you go out.

If for example, you choose to do Matched Betting/Surveys, do an offer or survey every day.  Even if just one.   Check for email offers or free spins daily.

If selling on a platform, list one item every day. Often you’ll end up doing multiple offers or listings.

You only need to make:

• £ a day to have £ a month

Cashback is an ingrained habit for me, I never forget to shop online without first going through a cashback site.
